In celebration of Frances Perkins Day. Adelphi University will host a film Screening of Food Chains with a Panel discussion to follow. The screening will be in Blodgett Hall, Auditorium 20.
The Frances Perkins Forum counters the silencing of working-class voices and labor interests in the schools. We facilitate professional development forums for teachers, develop creative curricula exploring issues relevant to working families, and encourage active civic participation by students and their teachers. Food Chains exposes the abuses rampant in farm labor in the United States and reveals the forces behind that exploitation through the narrative of an intrepid group of tomato pickers in Florida, the Coalition of Immokalee Workers, who are battling the 4 trillion dollar global supermarket industry - and winning!
